Job Description:
BUCO Swakopmund is seeking a dedicated and highly organized Merchandiser to join our team. This role is integral to ensuring that our store not only meets but exceeds customer expectations by maintaining high standards of merchandising, stock management, and customer service. As a Merchandiser, you will play a key role in driving sales, enhancing the customer shopping experience, and upholding the values and culture of BUCO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Base Management and Service Excellence:
- Manage and develop a robust customer base by building strong relationships with both new and existing customers.
- Provide exceptional customer service by understanding and addressing customer needs, offering product recommendations, and ensuring that their shopping experience is seamless and enjoyable.
- Act as a brand ambassador for BUCO, embodying our commitment to customer satisfaction and excellence.
- Sales Achievement and Profit Maximization:
- Consistently meet and exceed sales and gross profit targets through effective merchandising, product placement, and proactive customer engagement.
- Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell products, contributing to increased sales and profitability.
- Actively follow up on customer quotes and inquiries, converting leads into confirmed sales and fostering repeat business.
- Stock Merchandising and Display Optimization:
- Ensure that all stock is merchandised according to company standards, with products displayed in a visually appealing and accessible manner.
- Regularly monitor stock levels and placement, making adjustments as needed to optimize product visibility and sales potential.
- Return any stock not removed from its designated location and ensure that all stock is correctly labeled, priced, and categorized.
- Stock Management and Reporting:
- Conduct regular stock checks, receiving and verifying deliveries to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Report on damaged, depleted, or removed stock, and take appropriate action to minimize loss and maintain inventory integrity.
- Assist in organizing and executing stock takes, ensuring that inventory records are accurate and up to date.
- Product Promotions and Customer Engagement:
- Actively promote products through in-store displays, demonstrations, and customer interactions.
- Stay informed about current and upcoming product promotions, ensuring that customers are aware of special offers and new arrivals.
- Provide customers with detailed product information, helping them make informed purchasing decisions.
- Merchandising Standards and Equipment Maintenance:
- Maintain and uphold BUCO’s merchandising standards, ensuring that the store is always clean, organized, and well-presented.
- Ensure that all equipment used in merchandising and stock management is properly maintained and in good working condition.
- Address any maintenance issues promptly to avoid disruptions to store operations.
- Administrative and Reporting Duties:
- Accurately complete all necessary administrative tasks, including sales reports, stock records, and customer logs.
- Provide regular feedback to management on stock performance, customer preferences, and any issues affecting sales or merchandising.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving store performance and customer satisfaction.

Requirements:
- Educational Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
- Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position, preferably within a retail or merchandising environment.
- At least 1 year of experience in shelf packing or merchandising, with a proven ability to maintain high standards of stock presentation and customer service.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the general building materials industry, with the ability to advise customers and recommend products.
- Demonstrated success in personal selling, achieving sales targets, and converting customer inquiries into actual sales.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage and coordinate regular stock takes and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Personal Attributes:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, suppliers, and team members.
- A proactive and customer-focused attitude, with a strong commitment to providing outstanding service.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks, including lifting and moving stock.
