As we expand our operations, we are looking for a dedicated Food Service Assistant to join our team in Polokwane, Limpopo. Main Purpose of the Job

The Food Service Assistant will be a key player in our food service operations, responsible for performing a range of tasks related to food production and front-of-house services. This role involves ensuring adherence to Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations while providing general support to enhance the efficiency of our food service operations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering top-notch service and maintaining a high level of personal and professional standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Food Production Support:
    • Assist with the preparation and cooking of food items according to established recipes and standards.
    • Ensure that all food items are prepared and presented in a manner that meets or exceeds company quality standards.
    • Follow proper food handling and hygiene procedures to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Front-of-House Services:
    • Provide excellent customer service by greeting and assisting guests in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Handle food service tasks such as plating, serving, and replenishing food items as needed.
    • Address customer inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively to ensure a positive dining experience.
  • General Support:
    • Perform various tasks related to the smooth operation of both front and back-of-house areas, including cleaning, organizing, and restocking supplies.
    • Assist with setting up and breaking down service areas, ensuring that all equipment and utensils are clean and ready for use.
    • Support kitchen staff with any additional tasks required to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:
    • Adhere to all Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of food items.
    • Ensure compliance with hygiene standards and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
    • Participate in regular training sessions to stay updated on safety procedures and best practices.
  • Customer Service Excellence:
    • Take pride in delivering exceptional service and maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
    • Engage with customers to understand their needs and preferences, and ensure that their dining experience is enjoyable and satisfactory.
    • Handle customer feedback constructively and work towards continuous improvement in service delivery.

Education and Experience

  • Educational Background:
    • Matric is essential.
    • A qualification in Food and Beverage Services or Culinary Arts is advantageous but not required.
  • Professional Experience:
    • Previous experience in the hospitality industry is essential, with a focus on food service and customer interaction.
    • Experience in customer service is advantageous, with a demonstrated ability to handle customer inquiries and provide effective solutions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Food Preparation Knowledge:
    • Basic understanding of food preparation techniques and hygiene practices.
    • Ability to follow recipes and instructions to ensure consistent quality in food production.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, colleagues, and supervisors.
    • Effective listening skills to understand customer needs and address them appropriately.
  • Professional Appearance and Hygiene:
    • Commitment to maintaining a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene.
