SAP HCM Support Manager – AVI Limited, Johannesburg, Gauteng (Permanent)
AVI Limited, a leading South African food and beverage company known for its iconic brands, is seeking a highly skilled SAP HCM Support Manager to join its IT Shared Services Division in Johannesburg, Gauteng. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior professional with SAP HCM expertise to lead the delivery and ongoing support of SAP HR systems across the AVI Group.

Role Purpose
The SAP HCM Support Manager is responsible for the functional management, optimisation, and continuous improvement of SAP HR systems. This role ensures seamless HR operations while enabling digital transformation initiatives and process automation across AVI. You will serve as a strategic partner to HR and Shared Services, translating complex business needs into effective SAP solutions.
Reporting to the Executive: Systems and Enabling Technology, and managing three direct reports, this role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking.
Key Responsibilities
1. SAP HR Systems Leadership
- Lead the delivery of SAP HR projects and system enhancements, from initial scoping to post-implementation support.
- Provide functional leadership across core SAP HCM modules including:
- Payroll (weekly and monthly cycles)
- Time Management (positive, negative, hybrid)
- Organisational Management
- Personnel Administration and Development
- Employee & Manager Self-Service
- SAP Workflow, CATS, Training & Events
- Third-party integrations (e.g., banking, payroll services) via ALE/PI
- Ensure compliance with SAP Support Packs, Legal Change Packs, and Notes in a complex, customised SAP landscape.
- Act as a strategic advisor to HR stakeholders, providing insight and recommendations for system improvements, automation, and future-fit solutions.
2. Support and Operational Management
- Manage the end-to-end resolution of SAP support queries and application issues.
- Maintain a high standard of service delivery, ensuring timely resolution of all incidents with zero tolerance for unresolved issues.
- Monitor and report on system performance, workflow efficiencies, and user satisfaction.
- Collaborate with IT, HR, and Finance teams to optimise business processes through SAP solutions.
3. Project Implementation & Continuous Improvement
- Oversee the functional aspects of SAP HCM full lifecycle implementations.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure SAP systems align with HR and organisational objectives.
- Identify process gaps, propose improvements, and implement best practices.
- Support upgrades, migrations, and integrations, including SAP ECC, SuccessFactors, and S4/HANA HXM platforms.
4. Team Leadership and Mentorship
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing SAP HCM support team.
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven team culture.
- Ensure knowledge transfer and upskilling of team members to maintain operational excellence.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in a SAP HCM functional role.
- Experience in at least 5 full lifecycle SAP HCM implementations.
- Minimum 2 years in a management or technical leadership role.
- SAP HCM Certification (4.6 or later).
- Strong understanding of SAP configuration for Payroll and Time Management.
Advantageous
- Experience with SAP ECC, SuccessFactors, or S4/HANA HXM.
- Tertiary qualification or project management certification.
- Prior experience in a Shared Services environment.
- Expertise in SAP integrations and third-party interfaces.
