Dis-Chem Pharmacies, one of South Africa’s leading pharmacy and retail chains, is seeking a Casual Merchandiser to join their Cape Road store in Gqeberha. This role is ideal for an energetic, detail-oriented individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced retail environment and providing excellent customer service.
As a Casual Merchandiser, you will be responsible for ensuring that all merchandising standards are executed correctly and that stock is effectively managed on the shop floor. Your role will contribute directly to enhancing customer experience, maximising sales, and maintaining the high standards that Dis-Chem is known for.
Key Responsibilities
Merchandising & Stock Management
- Restock merchandise as needed to ensure maximum sales and product availability.
- Ensure stock delivered or pulled from the storeroom is stored and displayed in the correct location in a timely manner.
- Monitor sell-by dates and ensure that expired stock is promptly removed.
- Maintain the full range of products on shelves at all times and ensure proper rotation (FIFO).
- Build and maintain merchandising displays according to Dis-Chem standards and store planograms.
- Assist in general stocktaking, counting stock files, and maintaining inventory accuracy.
- Flatten boxes after unpacking and place them in designated areas.
- Monitor and report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged stock, and price discrepancies to management.
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, professional, and courteous assistance to all customers.
- Resolve customer stock queries, including following up on out-of-stock requests.
- Assist in training new staff to ensure excellent customer service standards.
Operational Standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of shelves, displays, and storeroom areas.
- Assist with loading and off-loading of stock as required.
- Ensure items without barcodes are clearly marked for sale.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s operational standards, policies, procedures, SOPs, and health & safety rules.
- Ensure correct uniform and badge are worn at all times.
- Minimise stock losses through careful handling of merchandise.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Up to 6 months retail experience (advantageous: 1 year or more).
- Computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office.
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours, including weekends if required.
- Physically fit to lift and move boxes while adhering to health and safety standards.

- Effective interpersonal skills to engage with customers, management, and colleagues.
- Trustworthy, reliable, and honest.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
Advantageous Skills:
- Bilingual proficiency (Afrikaans/Xhosa).
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry.
- Product and category knowledge.
- Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for stock ordering and inventory management.
- Vigilant and able to report suspicious or inappropriate behaviour by staff or customers.

- South African citizen with clear criminal and credit records.
